I must confess that for many years I underestimated the beach at Gerontas. The comparatively long footpath didn’t seem to me to be worth the effort and in particular it seemed to be a winter’s tale. Gerontas had practically ceased to exist and simply had not roused my curiosity. The rumour was perfectly realistic since given the small scale of the beach, the surf in winter wouldn’t have to wash away all that much sand to completely destroy the beach. That happens occasionally here and there on Milos.
